Pillion seater killed after drunk motorcycle rider rams into road divider – Times of India

MUMBAI: A 22-year-old man, seated pillion on a motorcycle with an inebriated friend, died after the speeding two-wheeler crashed into a road divider at Santacruz East on Tuesday. The motorcycle rider, Vaibhav Mohite, 19, was hospitalised with serious injuries. Vakola Police registered a case of negligence and rash driving against Mohite and will arrest him once he is discharged from hospital.
Gurav was a delivery boy by profession.He lived with his family at Chakala, Andheri East. On Monday, around 8.30 pm, Gurav left home without informing his parents where he was headed. His father kept calling him up but Gurav wouldn’t answer the calls. Around 10.44 pm, Gurav answered his father’s call and said he was at a Sai Palkhi in Sahar, Andheri East, with Mohite, his friend. He promised to return home by 11.30pm. But when he did not return by midnight, his family got worried. His father called him for the next two hours but received no response.
Early on Tuesday, an acquaintance called up Gurav’s father and informed that Gurav and Mohite had been injured in a road crash at Patra Gate on the Western Express Highway at Santacruz East. He added that both youngsters had been admitted to VN Desai Hospital
Gurav’s family rushed to the VN Desai Hospital where they learnt that he was no more. Mohite had been moved to Cooper Hospital where he is under treatment. Police informed Gurav’s family that Mohite was riding the motorcycle towards Bandra on the WEH at a high speed when the two-wheeler hit a divider and the duo was thrown off. Police added that both the youngsters were inebriated. Mohite, a resident of Vile Parle, was wearing a helmet.
Based on a complaint given by Gurav’s father, an FIR was registered against Mohite.
