Patna: The city woke up to overcast skies and light shower on Tuesday morning. An active western disturbance prevailing over the northern region has brought unseasonal rain accompanied with gusty winds and thunderstorm, which lashed Patna and several other parts of the state.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rain would continue in Bihar for the next two days under the current weather system.However, the state may not witness intense rain on February 14 and 15 with the retreat of persisting system. A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorm/lightning in southern parts of the state on Wednesday, while south-east and north-east Bihar will receive light rain on Thursday.
Patna received 3.6mm rainfall till 5.30pm on Tuesday. Maximum rain was recorded at Pupari in Sitamarhi (10mm) during the same period, closely followed by 8mm in Dehri, Kaimur (4.5mm), Motihari (2.5mm) and Gaya (2.4mm). The rain has been attributed to several weather system, including induced cyclonic circulation which lies over south Haryana and neighbourhood between 1.5 and 3.1km above mean sea level and another cyclonic circulation over Marathwada at 0.9km above mean sea level.
Patna Meteorological Centre, in its bulletin issued on Tuesday, stated that light rainfall with hailstorm occurred at a few places in Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Gaya. Cloud cover persisted throughout the day at many other places, including Patna, which resulted in decline in maximum temperature.
In Patna, the maximum temperature was recorded at 23.5 degrees C, two notches below normal. The minimum temperature increased by two degrees at 14.2 degrees C. The minimum range of the humidity also increased to 71%.
According to weathermen, once the sky becomes clear, the minimum temperature will start to decline by 2.4 degrees C by February 15 and 16. However, there will be no change in maximum temperature over the next three days.
