Save footage of ‘assault’ on gangster in jail: Court | Delhi News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A court has ordered the Mandoli Jail administration to preserve the CCTV footage of gangster Deepak Pahal aka Boxer allegedly being beaten up by prison staff on Feb 2 after he had met his family in the meeting room.
The court of additional sessions judge Chander Jit Singh also directed the prison authorities to ensure the safety and security of Pahal.“The application is disposed of with the direction to the jail authorities to preserve the CCTV footage of 2.2.2024 around 1-2pm,” it ordered on Monday. Regarding his other pleas, Pahal was directed to avail of remedies as per law.
Pahal had moved court alleging beatings and misbehaviour by jail staff. He also alleged that he could be killed by the rival gangs. “There is a strong apprehension that the so called opposite gangs will definitely try to eliminate the present applicant/accused, if necessary, by colluding and conspiring with the jail authorities/police officials deputed within the jail premises,” he had claimed.
Pahal had alleged that the staff whose shift got over were also present at the spot and thrashed him “with ulterior motives and even touched him on his private parts inappropriately so as to humiliate him further”. Boxer expressed “a strong apprehension” that the incident was “an attempt to assassinate” him on the jail premises.
Claiming that the incident had come to the notice only when his family came to meet him again on Feb 7, Pahal urged the court for the preservation of the footage.
