Bhubaneswar: Households have a reason to cheer with the state govt issuing a notification on Tuesday bringing the power tariff for domestic users down by 10 paise per unit for the first time.
The move comes days before the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state.
As per the notification issued by Odisha Electricity Regulatory Authority (OERC), the tariff for all other categories remained unchanged, for the third consecutive year.The fixed monthly charges for below poverty line consumers have also been reduced from Rs 80 to Rs 70 while consumers opting for an e-bill will get a rebate of Rs 10 per bill cycle, the notification read.
Moreover, premium for green energy tariff has also been reduced from 25 paise per unit to 20 paise. Electric vehicle charging tariff has also been reduced this year from Rs 5.50 per unit to Rs 5.
Consumers with prepaid meters shall get a 4% rebate on the bill amount while LT (low tension) domestic and single-phase general purpose consumers shall continue to get a 4% rebate on digital payment.
“The tariff has been revised following due consultation with stakeholders concerned. The revision is going to benefit all kinds of consumers, from bulk to domestic to commercial and industrial,” OERC secretary Priyabrata Patnaik said.
For the industrial units too, govt has introduced a rebate. Commercial and industrial units and consumers with smart meters are eligible to get a rebate of 10 paise per unit during solar hours and 20 paise per unit during peak hours, the notification said.
