Salem: Water pots on the Yercaud Ghat Road are being filled up ahead of summer to ensure animals and birds have access to water. Artificial ponds are also being set up inside reserve forests. Forest officials from the Salem south range have placed cement water pots across the parapet wall on the Salem-Yercaud Ghat Road. Monkeys, Indian gaurs, foxes, spotted deer and other wild animals which frequent these spots, will benefit from this.A forest officer said, “Considering the plight of animals, we usually fill the pots with water during summer, because animals can easily get water during the rainy season and winter.” Monkeys and some small birds have already started coming out of the Shervarayan reserve forest in search of food and water, prompting officers to act.
