The chief minister stayed at the chang bungalow, a quintessential colonial-era stilted structure, of Bhaskar Shyam Gohain at Rajapukhuri Shyam gaon in Sarupathar constituency in Assam.
He also held discussions with the locals on various subjects, including roads, infrastructure and other benefits under various govt schemes. The drive is a call of the BJP party’s national president JP Nadda. Sarma said, “A decision was taken in the last cabinet that all the ministers of state govt will stay in the village for seven days in a year. I have instructed all the ministers that when they are on a village tour, they will stay in the houses of the workers and not in the circuit house or hotel. I will spend six more nights in six different villages in the state.” He added that the mothers and sisters of the village blessed him abundantly. “Muslim mothers and sisters are very excited and appreciative of our efforts to ban polygamy and child marriage,” he added.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita, who spent Tuesday night at Mudoi Gaon in the river island of Majuli, said the prime objective of the drive is to go closer to the people in the state, understand their lives and increase the vote share in the upcoming Lok Sabha (LS) elections by at least by 10%. “During BJP rule in the state, there is hardly any road which has not been constructed or there is hardly any village where development has not taken place. The villagers said they are very much satisfied with the BJP govt as they have availed the benefits under various welfare schemes,” he said.
