Lucknow: A day after quitting as party’s national general secretary, SP MLC Swami Prasad Maurya on Wednesday said he has put in his papers before Akhilesh Yadav and the ball was now in his court.
Asked about his next step, Maurya said: “The ball is now in SP president’s court. It is for him to take a call.”
Meanwhile, support started pouring in for Maurya from senior SP leaders.Former leader of opposition in UP Assembly, Ramgovind Chaudhary, sent a letter to Akhilesh Yadav detailing the contribution of Maurya in strengthening the party at the grassroots.
The letter outlined how SP workers and cadres have been working diligently to expose the “double engine” govt of its attempts to deprive the backwards classes, Dalits, tribals, women, farmers and minorities of their rights and constitutional entitlements.
“Swami Prasad Maurya too has been vociferously contributing in this tirade against the divisive agenda of BJP and RSS. Since he hails from a backward section, he is in the crosshairs of BJP and RSS and must be retained as party national general secretary in the interest of the party,” the letter further stated.
