Nagpur: Three youths murdered a goon inside a house off the Ring Road at Manewada around Wednesday noon, said Ajni police who suspect it to be a fallout of an illicit relationship between the victim and girlfriend of the main accused. This was the ninth murder reported in the city since February 1.
The deceased, identified as Suraj Bihari alias Amit Mahato (26), a resident of Balaji Nagar, was booked under section 142 and externed from the city for two years four months ago. Bipin Gupta (26) of Naik Nagar, is the main accused, police said.
The incident hints at failure of city’s security network as the victim was in the city in violation of the externment order, sources said. Bipin, hailing from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, is a vegetable vendor, said senior PI Ajni police station Ashok Bhandare.
The police said at 11am, Suraj and Bipin spoke over the phone over some trivial reason. Suraj hurled abuses at Bipin and even threatened to kill him. He was left enraged after Bipin paid little heed, said the police.
The duo later met in front of a bar near Manewada Square on the ring road where Suraj reportedly started hitting Bipin with a bamboo stick, said the senior PI.
Two youths accompanying Bipin started assaulting Suraj. Bipin then allegedly stabbed Suraj in the stomach, chest, and back with a knife.
An auto driver who witnessed the fight alerted assistant police sub inspector Kamalkant Rokde and another cop Sandhya Dhok deployed at Manewada Chowk. The duo succeeded in nabbing Bipin while his accomplices fled.
On being informed, Bhandare arrived at the spot with a police team. Suraj’s body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. “Bipin was taken into custody, while a hunt has been launched to nab his two accomplices – Anil and Vijay (both residents of Naik Nagar),” said Bhandare.
