Patna: The stage is set for a peaceful state-level Matric examination, 2024 commencing on Thursday. About 17 lakh students, including 8.72 lakh girls, would appear at the examination being conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB).
The examinations will be held under tight security arrangements at 1,585 centres located in 38 districts. In Patna district alone, as many as 75,850 students would appear at the examination at 75 different centres.
The examinations would be held in two sittings. The examination of the first sitting would commence at 9.30am and that of the second sitting at 2pm. The examinees must reach at least half an hour before the commencement of the examination in each sitting. On the first day, students would write the paper in their mother language and literature (Hindi, Urdu, Bengali or Maithili) in both settings.
BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said anyone trying to enter the examination centre beyond the permissible time would be liable for punishment. “The act of trying to enter the hall forcibly will be treated as a ‘criminal trespass’ and an FIR will be lodged against him or her,” he said, adding that the student will be expelled from the examination for two years. Besides, if such an examinee is allowed to appear at the examination, action would also be taken against the centre superintendent.
According to Kishor, prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr PC would remain in vogue around the examination centres on all days of examinations and no unauthorized person would be allowed to enter the examination centre. The board has provided a Unique ID to each examinee to facilitate his or her special identification.
Examinees would be frisked at two points — one at the main entrance of the examination centre and the other inside the examination hall. The examinees would not be allowed to carry calculators, cellphones, Bluetooth, earphones or any other electronic gadgets with them inside the examination hall.
To ensure safe and smooth conduct of examinations a control room has been set up in the BSEB office which started functioning from 6pm on Wednesday and it will continue till 6pm on February 23. “During this period any problem related to the examination anywhere in the state would be tackled on war footing,” Kishor said.
Besides, a WhatsApp group named ‘BSEB Exam 2024’ has been created linking all the DMs, SPs and BSEB officials for dissemination of any important message and quick disposal of any problem.
There will be one invigilator for 25 examinees and each invigilator will have to submit a declaration to the effect that he or she has done frisking of all the 25 examinees under him or her and no undesirable object was found in their possession. Police force accompanied by magistrates would be deployed at all the centres of examinations. CCTV would be installed at all the centres and there would be one videographer for every 500 students.
If an examinee’s admit card is lost, he may be allowed to take the examination after establishing his identity from the scanned photograph on the attendance sheet and verification from the roll sheet.
The BSEB would distribute pre-printed answer books and OMR sheets bearing the candidate’s photographs. The examinees would be getting 100% additional choice in both objective and subjective questions. “The answer books and OMR sheets will be handed over to the examinees simultaneously, but the OMR sheets will be collected earlier at the specified time. There will be 10 sets of question papers (A to J) in each subject,” the chairman said.
There will be four model examination centres in each district where all the examinees, invigilators, police, magistrates and other supporting staff will be women only.
In Patna district, the model centres will be Govt Girls’ Higher Secondary School-Bankipur, Govt Girls’ Higher Secondary School-Shashtri Nagar, Kamla Nehru Girls’ High School-Yarpur and Govt Girls’ High School-Gardanibagh.
Meanwhile, the Khagaria district administration has completed all necessary preparations to ensure free and fair Matriculation examinations to be conducted by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) from February 15.
According to official sources, 16 centres have been made at the district headquarters, while 19 centres are located at the newly created Gogri sub-divisional headquarter. Two model centres, out of the total 35 centres in the district, have been made each at the district headquarters and Gogri sub-divisional headquarters.
District magistrate DM Amit Kumar Pandey told this newspaper that altogether 31,000 boys and girls will be writing their papers across the district in two shifts. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed around the examination centres to maintain law and order situation across the district, till the end of Matric exams.
The district magistrate while reviewing the preparations asked the magistrate on duty and centre superintendents to check use of unfair means at their respective centres failing which they will be held responsible for the same.
