EPS flaunts GOs to prove minister wrong on PHCs | Chennai News – Times of India

Chennai: Leader of the opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami and health minister Ma Subramanian on Thursday locked horns over primary health centres. Palaniswami flaunted orders issued by his govt to open 42 PHCs.
Subramanian on Wednesday had claimed that not even a single PHC was established when Palaniswami was chief minister. On Thursday, Palaniswami rose to dispute the claim.“Order No. 467 was issued in December 2017 to establish 12 PHCs and Order No. 91 was issued in March 2018 to establish 30 PHCs. In all, 42 PHCs were established in the previous regime,” he said, demanding the Chair expunge remarks of the minister that appeared in the media.
At this juncture, the health minister intervened to say that though 42 PHCs might have been inaugurated during Palaniswami’s regime, orders were not issued during his tenure. “I reiterate that not even a single order for a PHC was issued during his regime between 2017 and 2021,” he said. Palaniswami then flaunted the order copies and said that both the orders were passed during his tenure. DMK floor leader Duraimurugan asked Palaniswami to submit copies of the orders to speaker M Appavu so as to take a call on expunging the comments of the minister.
Later, Palaniswami told reporters that DMK and its allies have done little to get funds from the Centre though they won a total of 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. “Funds will come only if you ask at the appropriate place. AIADMK fought and got funds. Have you voiced it in Parliament? How many times have you got the House proceedings postponed because of your protests? You have done nothing,” Palaniswami said, recalling the protests by AIADMK members in both Houses of Parliament for Cauvery water, leading to postponement of the session for days. The AIADMK leader alleged lack of responses from the chief minister to his queries on various issues.
