Man gets 7-year jail term for sexually exploiting minor girl in Kanpur | Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: A Special POCSO Act Judge on Thursday convicted one Pankaj for sexual exploitation of a minor girl and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. The judge also imposed a total fine of Rs 42,000 on him for the offence.
The presiding judge in his order also observed that if the convict fails to pay the fine amount, he would have to spend one more year in jail.He also directed that a sum of Rs 30,000 be given to the victim for her rehabilitation.
During the court proceedings, on the quantum of sentence, the defense counsel said the accused belongs to a very poor family and earns his livelihood by working as a labour.He should be punished with a lenient view. However, the prosecution on the other hand, said the accused had committed a heinous crime, therefore he should be punished severely.
According to additional district government counsel, the girl’s father had lodged a missing complaint with Govind Nagar police on Feb 1, 2017. He alleged that his minor daughter was a student of Arya Kanya Inter college. On the fateful day, her brother dropped her off at the college gate and when he went back to pick her up, she was found missing.
When the girl’s friend was contacted, she gave a mobile number belonging to one Pankaj, a resident of Kachchi Basti. During investigation, it was revealed that Pankaj had lured and kidnapped the minor girl before sexually exploiting her.
