Tahsildar assault case: Former Union minister M K Alagiri, 16 others acquitted | Chennai News – Times of India

MADURAI: Madurai judicial magistrate (JM) I court on Friday acquitted former Union minister M K Alagiri and 16 others in a case pertaining to assaulting a tahsildar during an election campaign near Melur in 2011.
During the 2011 assembly election campaign, Alagiri along with DMK cadre was speaking to people in a temple near Melur seeking their votes. Based on a complaint, the then tahsildar, M Kalimuthu, who was the assistant returning officer of Melur assembly constituency, and a videographer went to the spot and started videographing them. The DMK cadre objected to it and assaulted the tahsildar.
Keelavalavu police registered a case against Alagiri and 20 people in connection with this incident. Four people died during the pendency of the trial.
On Friday, JM I, B Muthulakshmi acquitted Alagiri and 16 others from the case.
