Chennai: Tamil Nadu contributes 17% of engineers – the highest by any state – graduating in India annually, IT minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan told the assembly on Thursday.
Replying to a question of AIADMK MLA A K Selvaraj from Mettupalayam constituency, Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said, “Wherever there is human resource, more companies will be attracted. Tamil Nadu’s important resource is human resource created by giving education to all by the Dravidian rule for over 100 years.We are ahead in engineering as Tamil Nadu contributes to 17% of engineers graduating in India every year.”
“IT is the largest job providing sector in the state. Last year, there was a record that 11 million sqft of office space for IT companies was created in Chennai, both by the government and the private sector,” said Thiaga Rajan.
“In another 10 days a mega IT conference on a par with global investors will be held on Feb 23 and 24,” the minister said.
Earlier, Selvaraj demanded that the govt construct an IT park in Karamadai municipality in Coimbatore district. The minister replied that a case is pending in court regarding the IT park constructed without environment clearance in Coimbatore during the AIADMK regime.
