Max eyes more beds – Max Healthcare | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Max Healthcare, which acquired Alexis Hospital in a Rs412 crore deal, is open to more buyouts and has 21 cities on its radar. The New Delhi group has plans to scale up Alexis to a 350-bed hospital from the 200 at present.
Before the buyout, Alexis had reported a turnover of Rs150 crore. The scaled up facilities would lead to a sizeable growth in turnover, said Max’s chairman-cum-managing director Abhay Soi.
This is the second hospital takeover in city. Two years ago, Hyderabad’s Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences had taken over 51% stake in Kingsway Hospital in a Rs300 crore deal.
With big private hospitals coming up in the city, corporate groups are eyeing similar takeovers. The idea is to acquire a stake in a running hospital instead of starting a fresh set up, said healthcare sector sources. Other hospitals too have been scouting for takeover opportunities, said an official in a large hospital .
Some hospitals had received offers from corporate groups recently, which were turned down as the promoters did not want to dilute equity.
Buying an asset in Nagpur gives corporates access to a large geographical area. A large number of patients from Madhya Pradesh come to Nagpur for treatment.
Meanwhile, Max is considering Alexis as a gateway to central India. As many as 40% of Max’s patients come from upcountry areas, said a official. Soi said treatment cost in hospitals at Nagpur is lesser than other cities.
