Chennai: Former chief minister O Panneerselvam on Friday launched a scathing attack on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, saying he had struck a secret deal with DMK. The secret deal was a sign that he was “heading for a fall”, said Panneerselvam. The EPS camp had expelled Panneerselvam and supporters in July 2022 on charges of acting as a ‘B’ team of DMK.
He said Palaniswami did a flip-flop on the BJP-led NDA govt’s ‘one nation, one election’ concept after strongly advocating simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and states until recently.
He recalled the observation of AIADMK MLA N Thalavai Sundaram in the assembly on Wednesday when chief minister M K Stalin moved a resolution against the Centre’s policy. Sundaram said the AIADMK made 10 demands in its representation to the Ram Nath Kovind committee (on simultaneous elections) to be realised in 10 years from 2024. The party would support the concept when the demands were met.
“During electioneering for 2022 local body polls, Palaniswami said the simultaneous elections would be rolled out in 2024. Now, he is talking about 2034. Incidentally, the resolution was passed unanimously in the assembly,” Paneerselvam said.
