Jaisalmer: An SIT has been formed on the poaching incidents in western Rajasthan including Jaisalmer.
A team of four members in SIT will investigate the poaching incidents and submit their report in a month. It will also investigate the connivance of employees and officers of the forest department.
After poaching of chinkara in Nehdai village in January, there is resentment among the Bishnoi community and environment enthusiasts and they are staging dharna outside the collector’s office for the last many days.
After the formation of SIT, MLA Chotu Singh Bhati offered juice to the people of Bishnoi community and made them end their dharna.
Under the leadership of Akhil Bhartiya Jeev Raksha Bishnoi Sabha national spokesperson Shivraj Bishnoi, environment enthusiasts of many organisations met forest and environment minister Sanjeev Sharma at the secretariat in Jaipur on Wednesday and expressed serious annoyance over the incidents of poaching in western Rajasthan including Jaisalmer and demanded to form SIT to investigate these incidents.
Taking immediate cognisance, the minister on Thursday formed SIT.
Principal chief conservator of forest Manish Garg on Thursday evening issued an order and formed a four- member SIT under the chairmanship of chief conservator of forest Rajeev Chaturvedi and chief conservator of forest Begaram Jat, first conservator T Mohanraj, deputy conservator of forest Sunil Kumar Gaur have been made the members.
The SIT will investigate the poaching incident of chinkara at Nehdai in detail. In case of carelessness and indifference of employees and officers, it will recommend action to control poaching of wildlife in future and suggest measures to prevent them.
Garg directed the SIT to submit the report in a month.
Wildlife enthusiast Radheyshyam Bishnoi said that poaching incidents are continuously rising in western Rajasthan and there is heavy resentment among wildlife enthusiasts throughout the state.
After the formation of SIT, the sabha expressed happiness and hoped that now impartial probe into poaching cases will be conducted.
Notably, on January 23 a chinkara was poached in the Mohangarh canal area.
Thereafter, wildlife enthusiasts staged indefinite dharna outside the collector’s office. They were demanding a high level investigation in these cases and action against the forest department officers.
