Gurgaon: MCG has started work on laying 6-inch water pipelines in Ardee City, widening the existing ones and connecting them to two boosting stations. The move comes a year and a half after the corporation took over the colony. Residents said the old lines were laid around 20 years ago, during which the population has increased considerably.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 80.6 lakh.“We started the work of laying the new water lines on Saturday. The contractor has been given a deadline of three months to complete the work,” an MCG official said.
Residents said the existing pipelines are 4 inches wide in diameter and require replacement, since the old pipes wear out with time and affect the capacity and pressure with which water flows through them. Around 2,300 families live in the colony.
“After the takeover of our colony in June 2022, MCG immediately promised us that it would replace our old water pipelines, since these are around two decades old. We had been taking up the matter continuously with the civic body since then. Work has finally started now,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, a resident.
She added that the work order was issued to the contractor in mid Jan, but the work was pushed to Feb.
“It is a relief for the residents since the summer is approaching, when water demand peaks. The wider pipes will ensure that water tanks are filled faster and will ensure sufficient supply to all households,” Mandhotra said.
Residents of other colonies taken over by the civic body, including Sushant Lok 1, 2 and 3, Malibu Towne and South City 1 and 2, have also demanded replacement of old water and sewer pipelines. The infrastructure of private colonies was developed around 15 years ago on the basis of the population and number of families living there at that time.
There is a need to upgrade the infrastructure according to the existing requirement, they said.
