Mekedatu row: EPS warns of protest against govts | Chennai News – Times of India

Chennai: Terming Karnataka govt’s preparatory work for Mekedatu dam as contempt of court, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniwami on Saturday said the upper riparian state should give up its proposal or else the AIADMK would hold protests. The protest is against Tamil Nadu and Union govts for being mute spectators, he said. Former chief minister O Panneerselvam too condemned Karnataka govt’s announcement of setting up exclusive units for implementation of the multi-crore project.
In a statement, Palaniswami accused DMK of joining hands with its ally, Congress in Karnataka, and sacrificing the interests of Tamil Nadu. The AIADMK regime filed a contempt petition against the Central Water Commission (CWC) for taking up the Mekedatu plan in 2018, and the case is still pending in the SC. But TN govt representatives did not even walk out of the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s (CWMA) meeting held on February 1 when the dam plan was allowed for discussion, he said.
