Pune: The city’s third Metro line is likely to see a trial run on a short stretch from Maan to Wakad in Sept this year,
PMRDA officials told TOI on Thursday, adding that work has been intensified on this patch by adding more manpower and machinery.
The deadline to complete the construction of the entire elevated Metro line from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is Nov 2024.Despite the trial run in the offing, the authority does not intend to open the Metro line to the public right away. Operations will begin only once all the required processes for the whole line are finished by April 2025, said officials.
PMRDA chief engineer Rinaj Pathan told TOI at least 96% of pile foundations, pile caps and piers have been completed along the 23-km line, while almost 50% of span erection has been finished for 11.7km. “The aim is to complete full trials by Jan next year for operations to commence in April. We have deployed enough manpower to finish the entire stretch,” she added.
Pathan also informed track plinth installation has been completed for 6.3km while welding is done for a track of around 8.5km. Elaborating on the trial run planned for the 8-km Maan-Wakad stretch, she said work is almost over on this patch.
Meanwhile, work has also progressed on the integrated flyover being planned from SPPU Chowk to E-Square junction, and it is expected to be completed by Aug this year, said officials, adding that traffic diversions are being announced to speed up this effort.
PMRDA yet to acquire
Raj Bhavan land
PMRDA is yet to get consent to transfer 263.78sqm of Raj Bhavan land for its Metro line. The authority was in touch with Central government and state authorities for the past two years for land to construct a Metro station, said an official.
Earlier, central approval was pending, but now security issues have delayed the transfer of land, the official said, adding that meetings are being held at the Chief Secretary level to resolve this.
The proposed station is abutting the Raj Bhavan’s compound wall.
