Politics not child’s play: Sule on Ajit’s wife fighting against her in Baramati | India News – Times of India

PUNE: Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Sunday said that politics was not ‘Bhatuklicha Khel’ – a Marathi term for a children’s role-play game with a mock marriage of dolls or playing house.
She was replying to talks about likelihood of her cousin and NCP leader Ajit Pawar‘s wife Sunetra contesting against her. Speaking to reporters here, Sule also said that calling this battle family infighting was wrong.
“The battle is not personal. There are no relationships in politics, but responsibilities are important. I don’t mix relationships and my work. It is a fight of ideologies. People should vote for me on merit,” she said.
On comments by Ajit Pawar at a public rally in Baramati last week, where, without naming Sule, he had said that civic issues cannot be resolved only by making speeches in Parliament, Baramati MP said she has been sent to Parliament for ‘raising people’s issues and making speeches’.
“It is a democracy and not an autocracy. How can problems be solved if we don’t speak in Parliament? I have relations not only with family members but also with hundreds of people in my constituency. They are not blood relations but have been formed due to affection. They are important, and so is ideology. My fight is against wrong policies promoted by BJP,” she said.
Sule said that if there is a strong candidate against her, she is ready for a public debate with that person on citizens’ issues that need to be addressed.
On Ajit Pawar saying that problems cannot be solved by taking selfies, Sule replied that PM Modi has also promoted them. “Union education ministry had issued a GR asking educational institutions to place PM Modi’s photo and urge students to take selfies with it. If PM is giving importance to selfies, what is wrong if we do the same?” she said.
