Udhagamandalam: Tourism minister K Ramachandran opened a newly constructed additional building at the Masinagudi government high school in the Nilgiris on Saturday. The building is among several other school buildings across the state which were inaugurated by chief minister M K Stalin through video conferencing from Chennai.
Built at an outlay of 3.52 crore, the additional building at Masinagudi includes five classrooms, four science laboratories and a room for the headmaster.Speaking on the occasion, Ramachandran said, “The infrastructure of government schools in the state are being enhanced to make it on par with private schools, considering the interests of students.”
He appealed to parents to send their children to government schools and make use of the benefits extended by the government. The minister lit a lamp and distributed sweets to the students.
Nilgiris collector M Aruna and chief education officer, Geetha were present at the inauguration.
The district collector later visited the houses of a few students who had dropped out from the government school in Masinagudi and interacted with them on the importance of education. She also persuaded their parents to send their children back to school.
Meanwhile, another additional building was also inaugurated at the Pandalur government high school in Nilgiris. The building constructed at a cost of 1.76 crore comprises four classrooms, one science laboratory and a toilet.
