Panaji: Congress on Monday protested at the directorate of transport against the rising number of road accidents. However, on not finding the transport director, Pravimal Abhishek Polumatla in office, they demanded that he be sacked for being absent while on duty.
“The director already went on leave from Feb 10 to 14 and is not present in the office on Feb 19 either. Is he still celebrating Valentine’s Day?” said state Congress president Amit Patkar.
He then proceeded to call Abhishek to address the issue of increasing accidents. However, the bureaucrat said he is on leave for personal work and disconnected the call.
“Abhishek has marked leave from Feb 20 to 25 as well. Such irresponsible bureaucrats will ruin Goa by prioritising their personal work over the state. He needs to be sacked,” he said.
The Congress delegation then staged a dharna at the department head office and refused to leave until the director of transport met them there.
Last month, when Congress had gone to submit a memorandum to ask the transport director about the non-recovery of green cess and other taxes, they were asked to leave the cabin for bringing reporters along.
