HYDERABAD: Two days after a pack of dogs was gunned down by unidentified miscreants at Ponnakal village in Mahabubnagar district, police are yet to make any headway in tracing the accused.
Unidentified persons allegedly killed 20 dogs and injured five animals between 1.30am and 2.30am on Friday. On Saturday, Mahabubnagar police brass held a review meet to take stock of the investigation.
In the absence of CCTV cameras in the village, police were finding it difficult to get clues in the case as there were conflicting versions by villagers, who claimed to have seen the suspects moving in the village on Thursday night. Multiple teams were given different tasks as part of the probe.
With no credible leads, police were now analysing mobile phone tower location to know who where present at the scene of offence.
When asked about the weapon used in the offence, police said that the bullets recovered from the dead and injured dogs were sent to forensic laboratory. They suspect that country-made weapon was used in the offence. “Untill the accused is caught and the weapon is recovered, we cannot say what weapon was used. But we suspect that mostly it might be a country-made weapon,’’ police officials said.
Since police believe that the accused came in a car, a police team has been checking footage of movement of cars at the nearby toll plaza on the highway, based on the inputs given by villagers like the colour of the vehicle.
Though the incident took place late in the night, the villagers of Ponnakal informed police about the incident in the morning .
