Pune: A fire broke out in a company at Kudalwadi near Chikhali late Saturday evening due to the overheating of the furnace. No injuries were reported.
Speaking to TOI, fire station officer Vinayak Ghadge said, “The company makes dust of aluminium sulfate and magnesium sulfate, and the workers had poured the aluminium powder and other chemicals in the furnace. All of a sudden, the temperature in the furnace increased, which resulted in the blast.”.
The fire brigade received the emergency call at around 6.15 pm. on Saturday. Five fire tenders and some water tankers reached the spot.
After learning about the chemicals, the officials used foam and sand to extinguish the flames, Ghadge added.
Meanwhile the workers and local residents of the area complained about the itching in their eyes after the fire broke out. “This was due to the chemicals that were put in the furnace,” a fire brigade official said.
