The four-time legislator has also accused the govt of discrimination, pointing to the recent granting of NAC status to Sheragada in Ganjam district while neglecting Borigumma’s repeated pleas since 2016.
“Despite repeated demands raised in the assembly since 2016, the issue has been consistently ignored by the state govt with the concerned minister replying on the line that the matter is under consideration,” Bahinipati said.
“Borigumma fulfils all criteria of being an NAC, yet it is being deliberately neglected. We are not against Sheragada’s development, but Borigumma should not be overlooked,” the veteran Congress leader said.
According to Bahinipati, while the district administration has long submitted its report affirming Borigumma’s eligibility as an NAC, the govt is yet to act on the matter.
Borigumma serves as a vital intersection point between Nabarangpur district and Jagdalpur of Chhattisgarh. With National Highway-26 passing through it, Borigumma has experienced significant development, emerging as a burgeoning urban centre with the presence of numerous state and central offices.
“NAC status for Borigumma paves the way for planned development and essential urban facilities. It is imperative that the state govt takes immediate action. Failure to meet our demand by Feb 25 will result in a 12-hour strike the following day, and the state govt will have to bear responsibility for any untoward incidents,” warned Bahinipati.
