Parab, Lobo spar over sale of land | Goa News – Times of India

Panaji: A public meeting to discuss the fate of sealed commercial and tourism structures in the CRZ zone turned into a war of words between Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and RG chief Manoj Parab on Monday. The two politicians and their supporters got into a verbal duel over the unconstrained sale of land in Goa to people from other states.
Parab challenged BJP govt to bring in laws to curb the sale of land to non-Goans, prompting Lobo to retort and say that any Indian is entitled to purchase land in any part of the country.
The heated debate was triggered by Lobo’s remark that locals were the ones to blame for selling land to businessmen from other states.
Parab said that Kerala has brought in land reforms such as the Kerala Land Conservancy Act and the Kerala Land Reforms Act.
“Why has BJP govt not brought in similar laws to prevent the sale of land to non-Goans? said Parab.
While Lobo put forth the suggestion that declaration of the Anjuna-Vagator area as an urban zone could help reduce some of the construction restrictions, the RG party demanded that a law and resolution should be brought in by the assembly to provide relief to locals and businessmen whose establishments have been sealed for violating CRZ norms.
“If this area is declared as urban area, then the area will come under CRZ II and some of the establishments will get some relief,” said Lobo.
“Let us see if this govt has the power to give justice to locals. All of you went to BJP for development. Now Goans must get development,” said Parab. tnn
