Hyderabad: Hosts Hyderabad need another 127 runs to win the Plate group final against Meghalaya. Set a target of 198, the hosts were 71/1 after losing Tanmay Agarwal for the second ball of their innings on the third day of their Ranji Trophy match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here on Monday. Tanmay was bowled by Chengkam Sangma for a duck.
Vice-captain Rahul Singh and night watchman Tanay Thyagarajan averted further trouble. Rahul slammed an unbeaten 29-ball 50 with seven boundaries and two sixes while Tanay made 17 from 35 balls. Earlier, opener Raj Biswa scored 100 and Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva made 81 to help Meghalaya reach 243 in their second innings.
Resuming the day at 0/1, Meghalaya lost their first wicket of the day when Swarajeet Das was caught by Tanay off pacer Kartikeya Kak (15) with the team score at 45.
Skipper Kishan Lyngdoh, who joined Raj, was cleaned up by Tanay. Coming together at 56/3, Raj and Jaskirat added 102 for the fourth wicket before the former was dismissed by Rishab Baslas after completing the century.
Thereafter, Meghalaya lost wickets at regular intervals. Yogesh Tiwari was caught by Nitesh Reddy off Rohit Rayudu for 9. Wicketkeeper Airen Sangma (9) edged Tanay to Pragnay Reddy. Dippu Sangma was trapped in front by Rohit Rayudu. He made only four runs.
Jaskirat, who added some quick runs towards the end of Meghalaya innings, was bowled by skipper Tilak Varma for 81. Jaskirat faced 157 balls, hit 10 boundaries and two sixes.
