New Delhi: Three men committed two back-to-back robberies in the Narela industrial area and stabbed two men in the process. One of the victims died, while the other is in a critical condition.
Police have arrested one suspect, who claims he committed the robberies because of financial debt.
The deceased was identified as Chandrakant Jha (28), who lived in Narela.Police received information about the robberies at 9pm on Feb 16.
A senior officer said Jha was returning from his factory and he was carrying Rs 18,000 that he had received as a salary.
The three men waylaid the man and asked him to hand over the money. When he objected, they started stabbing him in the stomach. The second incident happened while Aakash, a worker of the same factory, was going home. The accused also robbed his mobile phone.
“They attacked Aakash and forcibly transferred money from his e-wallet and then stabbed him,” a police officer said. Two cases were registered under IPC sections of murder, robbery and common intention.
Deputy commissioner of police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh said the police formed multiple teams for scanning CCTV cameras, conducting technical surveillance and for local intelligence. “We learned that the accused had transferred money from the victim’s e-wallet. During investigation, we nabbed one suspect,” he said.
The accused was identified as Manish, who lives in Punjabi Colony in Narela. “Manish confessed to the crime and told us that he committed the robberies along with his associates, Raja and Ajay, who reside in the same Punjabi Colony,” the officer said.
He added that he was under a financial debt, so he had made a plan to rob.
On the day of incident, the three was roaming in the motorcycle and saw one of the victims, a permanent resident of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. He was a construction labourer.
Police are raiding various places in their search for the other two accused. They are also scanning CCTV cameras to ascertain routes taken by the accused to flee. The police have found a robbed mobile phone, money, knife and the motorcycle used in the crime.
Police said they are also trying to find out if the accused had committed any other crime in the past. Last year, a man was killed and two people were injured after three robbers on motorcycles went on a spree of stabbings in northeast Delhi. The victims were labourers.
