CHANDIGARH: Reacting to the death of a 21-year-old protester in police action on the Khanauri border, Punjab’s leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday called for an FIR against Haryana home minister Anil Vij and police officials.
The Punjab Congress pressed the state’s Bhagwant Mann government to make a police case against Vij and his Haryana cops for the use of force against the protesting framers. Haryana’s police action had also injured many farmers, who were moved to hospitals in Punjab. Bajwa said: “Their teargas shells and rubber bullets have hit the farmers within Punjab’s jurisdiction. I condemn this action.”
He expressed deep sorrow over the death of Bathinda farmer Shubkaran Singh on the Khanauri border. Accusing chief minister Bhagwant Mann of working under the influence of the central government, Bajwa claimed that Mann’s silence was the evidence of his submission to the Centre, else he could file an FIR against Anil Vij and his Haryana Police.”
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring also demanded an FIR against Anil Vij and his Haryana cops. He cautioned Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann that if that didn’t happen, the Congress and the people of Punjab would blame his govt equally for any further injuries or deaths. Warring said: “The Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab only claims to be siding with the farmers, while the Punjab Congress will compel it to work for them actually.”
