Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation’s upcoming green building on the Ripon Buildings campus will have a universal 24×7 control room that would integrate all helplines and grievance forums of all other departments.
The 40-crore building is the second significant upgrade to the Ripon Buildings campus, after the Amma Maligai was inaugurated in 2015. The 4,790 sq m building will be inaugurated by chief minister M K Stalin soon.
The building, constructed under Chennai Smart City scheme, has a renewable solar energy system of 120KW solar PV/BIPV system.
The building will have a universal control room on the first floor with a 15-feet high video wall. The control room will consist of four rows of workstations with a total capacity of 60 staff. The control room will monitor the city through 450 CCTV cameras. It will also monitor grievances and SOS portals from various departments at one spot.
The second floor will have a war room and situation room to monitor grievances, SOS, and oversee the city. Officials said they would have an office-space for various inter-department staff like police, traffic, fire service, Tangedco and other emergency response departments. There will also be a conference room to accommodate officials and ministers for meetings.
The third floor will have a GIS department to monitor spatial data and its call centre. The fourth floor will have the special projects department and more meeting rooms, while the terrace will house a dining area.
GCC commissioner Dr J Radhakrishnan said the building will have smart water metres, automated drip irrigation system, comprehensive rainwater harvesting system, and zero energy waste-water treatment and reuse system. “The building is also insulated to ensure minimal requirement of air-conditioning,” he said.
An elevated skywalk which connects the building with Ripon Buildings and the Amma Maligai has already been inaugurated. The skywalk is decorated with plants, flowers and other greenery.
