Gurgaon: More than 27,000 people have registered so far for the first edition of the Gurugram Marathon. Seeing the impressive response to the event scheduled on Feb 25, govt has extended the enrolment window by two more days, till Feb 22.
Participants will be given marathon kits on Feb 22, 23, and 24 and allocated a lot for parking if they are reaching the city in their own vehicles.Police will deploy over 1,000 cops and 500 volunteers to manage traffic during the Feb 25 event.
“Looking at the number of people registering, the Gurugram Marathon is expected to emerge as one of the biggest marathon events in the country. People from all walks of life are signing up and supporting the event,” deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav said.
Over the past few days, the administration held a series of meetings with several runners’ groups, RWAs, universities, colleges, school associations, all corporates in the city, and citizens’ groups to ensure maximum participation.
Yadav said the marathon is aimed at creating a brand for the city and promoting a healthy lifestyle. “Elaborate parking arrangements have been made for the event. Participants will also be provided with water, snacks and medical aid. A marathon expo will be organized at Leisure Valley Park on Feb 22 till Feb 24, wherein participants will be given kits,” he added.
Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan is the event’s brand ambassador. The marathon has been divided into four categories. Three of them are competitive, in which winners will get cash rewards.
