Gurgaon: A woman driving an Innova ran over a four-year-old boy just metres from his home at a slum in Sector 57 on Sunday.
Janki, the boy, had gone to a nearby grocery store to buy some candies for himself on Sunday afternoon. He was on his way back home when the car — coming from the Sushant Lok side — ploughed into him. The driver did not stop.
Janki’s father Babulal was standing at a distance when his son was run over.He said he saw a woman driving the SUV and noted down the registration number. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
“Around noon, my son wanted to have some candies. So, he went to the nearby store to get them. He was just metres from his home when an Innova speeding down the road knocked him down. I saw a woman behind the wheel. I managed to remember the car number (HR26 -8347). We rushed our son to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” said Babulal, an original resident of Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh who works as a car cleaner in the NCR city.
A case was registered against the unidentified driver of Innova under sections 304A (death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector 56 police station.
Satish Kumar, the SHO of Sector 56 police station, said, “An investigation is underway. We have the registration number of the vehicle. We will soon arrest the driver.”
Babulal stays in the slum with his wife and a five-year-old son.
