MUMBAI: Ameen Sayani, known for his iconic voice behind ‘Binaca Geetmala‘, passed away at the age of 91, according to his son Rajil Sayani.
Sayani suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night and was taken to a hospital in south Mumbai where his condition deteriorated. Despite efforts from doctors to revive him, he passed away in the evening. His last rites will be held tomorrow.
Ameen Sayani, born in Mumbai on December 21, 1932, was known for his introduction ‘Namaste behno aur bhaiyon, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon’ on Radio Ceylon.
At first he was rejected for ‘Hindustani presentations’ due to a slight Gujarati accent but then he found fame hosting ‘Binaca Geetmala’ on Radio Ceylon in December 1952.
The show ran for 42 years and was popular among audience.
