Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Co-Accused in Fraud Case | Chandigarh News – Times of India

Mohali: Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested Kuldeep Singh, a driver in the state food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department, as his bail petition was dismissed by Supreme Court. A VB spokesperson said Kuldeep was a co-accused with AIG (human rights) Malwinder Singh Sidhu, in a racket in which the police officer allegedly exploited his position to commit fraud, blackmail govt employees and extort money from them.
Warring slams AAP for ‘self promotion’
Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday highlighted the shortcomings in both planning and implementation of initiatives taken by Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party govt in Punjab. Warring said several schemes introduced by AAP govt seemed to prioritise self-promotion over addressing the substantive needs of the people of the state. To support his assertion, the Congress leader cited examples such as ‘Ghar Ghar Raashan Yojana’ and rebranding of existing health centres as Aam Aadmi Clinics.
PGI sat centre for border areas
Ferozepur: SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said the construction of a 100-bed PGI satellite centre here would finally be initiated, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi would virtually lay the foundation stone of the project on Feb 25. The SAD president said it was a moment of joy for people of the border belt that the satellite centre — the land for which had been transferred by the erstwhile SAD govt in 2016 — would finally see the light of day.
Cop held for taking bribe
Chandigarh: The Punjab vigilance bureau on Tuesday arrested Nishan Singh, senior constable posted at police post Green Avenue in Amritsar city, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000. Rajinder Singh, a resident of New Abadi, Amritsar, said the police official had been demanding bribe in lieu of releasing his vehicle on ‘superdari’ in a theft case.
