Student calls self terrorist to avoid going home, stirs scare at airport | India News – Times of India

BENGALURU: An engineering student unwilling to return home fearing he would be reprimanded by his parents for not doing well in academics, disembarked from a Lucknow-bound flight minutes before take-off, and told CISF personnel that he was a “terrorist“, triggering immense panic at Kempegowda International Airport last week.
The drama unfolded on the night of Feb 17.The student, Adarsh Kumar Singh, was arrested on the spot. He was released on bail Tuesday.
Singh, who studies at a private varsity in Bengaluru, had booked an Air Asia flight to Lucknow. After boarding, he changed his mind and chose to disembark. Cabin crew alerted CISF and when Singh came near the arrival corridor, he was intercepted by CISF personnel who wanted to know his reason for cancelling the trip at the last moment. The student told them he was a “terrorist” and maintained that the flight would not go to Lucknow as scheduled.
This sparked a chain reaction at the airport with security personnel swinging into action to rule out any threat. Officials detained and subjected the student to a detailed interrogation and anti-sabotage check. They declared it a “nonspecific threat for BLR” (Bengaluru) and “specific for LKO” (Lucknow) before handing Singh over to KIA police.
During interrogation, Singh said he was in the first year of BTech and admitted that he had been summoned home by his parents as he was not good at studies. He assumed his parents would scold him for not studying well and he wanted to avoid going home. So, he lied to CISF officials about being a terrorist when they questioned him.
