Salem: The Omalur police on Wednesday arrested four youths and two minors for throwing bottles filled with kerosene at a house at Naranampalayam and blocking the entrance to the street leading to the house with fire on Tuesday night.
A police officer identified the arrested youths as Viswanathan, 20, Nandha Kumar, 21, Sarathi, 19 and Santhosh Kumar, 19, all residents of Kalarkadu near Omalur.“The minor boys also were from the same locality.”
According to him, three of the youths had visited Naranampalayam village on their bikes around 9pm. “They were riding their bikes in a rash and negligent manner. K Periyanakam, 56, a local resident, advised the trio not to ride the bikes like that.” Irked over this, the trio returned with three of their friends and threw two bottles filled with kerosene at the house of Periyanakam. “They also blocked the entrance to the street leading to the house with fire. No one was hurt in the incident,” the officer said.
Periyanakam lodged a complaint with the Omalur police the same night. Police registered a case and nabbed the six, who confessed to the crime. They were subsequently arrested. While the four youths were lodged in the Salem Central Prison under judicial custody, the minor boys were sent to a juvenile home.
