Former PSPCL Superintendent Sentenced to 5 Years in Jail for Accepting Bribe | Ludhiana News – Times of India

Ludhiana: A court here has sentenced a former PSPCL superintendent to five years in prison for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a man for getting an electricity connection to his plot.
Using the word “current” as a euphemism for bribe, Sadhu Singh had demanded Rs 30,000 from the complainant, Dalip Kumar, in 2017.
The court of special judge Ajit Atri also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict.If he fails to pay it, Sadhu Singh, the former superintendent of PSPCL’s Sunder Nagar division, will have to serve an additional two months in jail. On Feb 28, 2017, the vigilance bureau had booked Sadhu Singh under Prevention of Corruption Act. Kumar alleged he had a plot in New Basant Vihar, Kakowal Road. For installing a 6KW electricity connection in the plot, he had applied in the office of PSPCL, Sunder Nagar, and deposited Rs 4,980. He said as the connection was not given, he visited the office again and met Sadhu Singh.
When Sadhu Singh demanded a bribe, Kumar protested. But, Sadhu Singh did not budge. Because of this, the complainant later paid Rs 20,000 to the PSPCL official. He later narrated this to a friend, who suggested that he report the official to the vigilance bureau. When the complainant met the convict to pay the second instalment, a trap had been laid by the vigilance bureau. When he took the bribe, the PSPCL official was arrested.
