Berhampur: Police on Wednesday arrested four persons from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly begging on the roadsides here by posing as persons with disabilities (PwD). The accused, Ajay Kumar, 28, Mero, 32, and Jaswant Kumar, 20, of Akhanda Nagar, Sultanpur, and Anil Kumar, 30 of Mau in Uttar Pradesh. The accused have been booked for cheating, said superintendent of police (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M.
He said all the accused deceived the passersby on the busy roads and collected money by showing themselves with abnormal physical condition, even though they are physically fit, said the SP.Around Rs 860 cash, a notebook containing details of money collected and clutches were seized from them, police said. The gang was into this activity for the last six months after coming from UP. During the day, they used to beg on the busy roads and spend the night by the side of NH-16.
