Kolkata: In the run-up to its commissioning, East-West Metro’s under-river section went through an inspection by a senior Railway Board representative on Wednesday. PM Narendra Modi is likely to launch the 4.8km Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section, which will be India’s first under-river Metro, early next month.
Vijay Pratap Singh, additional member (traction) of Railway Board, inspected the upcoming Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section on Wednesday morning.Singh took a train ride from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan and checked the tracks and other infrastructure. Since he specializes in traction of the use of electricity to propel trains along the tracks, Singh checked the auxiliary substation (ASS) or the traction substation at Howrah Maidan, which is the corridor’s terminal station on the western end.
The ASS feeds the auxiliary loads (lighting, pumps, lifts) of the Metro stations. tnn
