UP Board exams begin today | Lucknow News – Times of India

Lucknow: About 55.2 lakh students will appear in Class 10 and 12 examinations of the UP Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) from Thursday.
The morning shift will begin at 8.30am instead of 8am while the evening shift will be held from 2pm to 5.15pm.
Of the 55.2 lakh, 29.5 lakh students have registered for Class 10 while 25.7 lakh have enrolled for Class 12. Class 10 students will appear for Hindi and commerce papers on Thursday, while Class 12 students will have military sciences and Hindi in the morning and evening shift, respectively.
Additional chief secretary, secondary education, Deepak Kumar, said, “Stringent measures taken by govt have led to a significant drop in the number of centres and private candidates appearing for the examinations.”
“Against 12,000 examination centres in 2017, the number of centres for the world’s biggest exam is 8,265 this year. Similarly, the number of private candidates who appeared for the examination was 3.5 lakh in 2017 which has come down to 1.6 lakh this year,” he said.
Like previous years, state govt has set up a state-level monitoring and control room to ensure CCTV surveillance and voice recordings for free and fair exams.
About 3 lakh CCTV cameras have been installed at 8,265 centres and 75 district control rooms (each in one district) have been set up. Dedicated control rooms have been set up at UPSEB headquarters in Prayagraj and regional offices in Varanasi, Meerut, Bareilly and Gorakhpur. In addition, 416 flying squads will keep vigil.
UPSEB has identified 16 districts as highly sensitive, 776 centres as sensitive and 225 others as highly sensitive.
To ensure fairness, govt has introduced measures like computerised ID card with unique QR codes and serial numbers for 3.1 lakh invigilators, and QR codes on the first page of answer sheets.
Examinees will get stitched answer sheets in different colours, according to subjects, to check copying.
