Jaipur: Five people were injured after a Bolero crashed into a religious procession after its driver suffered a cardiac arrest at the wheel in Degana, Nagaur district, on Thursday. The driver was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
According to police, Ishaq Mohammad (60), the driver of the car, was on his way to a local hospital in Degana with a family member for a medical examination when he experienced a heart attack.Due to heart attack, his car crashed into a procession organised by the Jangid community for Vishwakarma Jayanti, police said.
Degana circle officer Rameshwar Saharan said, “Due to heart attack, he inadvertently accelerated, crashing into the procession and causing injuries to five people.
The driver was swiftly taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead. Three of the injured were discharged after initial treatment.”
A purported CCTV recording of the incident shows Mohammad initially driving cautiously behind the procession in a narrow lane. However, he suddenly accelerated, crashing into the procession and subsequently hitting a roadside wall.
Expressing condolences, chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma conveyed, “I am deeply saddened by the news of civilians sustaining injuries in a traffic accident during the Vishwakarma Jayanti procession in Degana. I extend prayers for the peace of the departed soul and speedy recovery of the injured. May the affected families find strength during this challenging time.”
Hariram (78) and Devkaran (65) were referred to Ajmer after sustaining serious injuries. Meanwhile, Megharam (62), Mohanlal (65) and Shivraj (29) from Degana have been discharged after receiving first aid.
The driver’s nephew, Anwar, said, “Uncle Mohammad used to drive a car on rent and even on Thursday morning, he took his car to the market at 10am. As he was feeling unwell, he didn’t take any bookings. That’s why he was going to the hospital. He had dropped his son off at the market and instructed him to meet him at the hospital. After the accident, Saddiq took his father to Ajmer in an ambulance, where he passed away during treatment.”
