Centre at IIIT-A to study ‘science of happiness’ | Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Science not only provides systematic knowledge of nature and moving in that direction, budding engineers of the Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT)-Allahabad will study the nuances of happiness and ways to remain happy in life. The unique study has been included as a minor subject in the BTech course for the academic session 2023-24.
The minor course will be conducted in the Centre for Science of Happiness established in the institute.Rekhi Foundation has provided a grant of Rs 25 lakh for the centre and will also provide Rs 30 lakh per year for the operation and infrastructure of the centre and honorarium for teachers and staff.
This happiness centre at IIIT-A will teach ways of reducing stress and help raise level of happiness in the lives of future technocrats and employees of the institute. A course named Science of Happiness has been introduced for employees and students. A maximum of 100 B.Tech students will be able to study the minor subject in a semester.
Coordinator of the centre and professor of Electronics and Communication branch of the Institute, Prof Nitish Purohit, said the centre is named Rekhi Centre for Science of Happiness and the objective of starting this course was to promote research, training, education for students and teachers using principles of different techniques to achieve happiness.
Purohit further said that a ‘mind lab’ will also be set up by the foundation at a cost of Rs 10 lakh to gauge level of happiness in individuals using various equipment, techniques and methods.
