CFC eye win and push for 6th spot | – Times of India

Chennai: Chennaiyin FC and Mumbai City FC will take on each other with contrasting aims at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday. While CFC, with 15 points from 14 games, are desperately trying to go up the ladder and push for the sixth spot, Mumbai City have the league shield in their sights. With 28 points from 14 games, Mumbai are one of the best teams of the tournament and it will need a massive effort from CFC to keep them at bay.
CFC, who will not have coach Owen Coyle in the dug-out due to multiple yellow cards, will also miss the services of right-back Ankit Mukherjee. The defender got a red card against Kerala Blasters, a game CFC won, but Ankit’s absence will be felt. Foreign defender Ryan Edwards will now have to shoulder extra responsibility.
Sandy Stewart, who will be taking up the coaching duties on the sidelines in Coyle’s absence, said: “This season, we have been the best when we have been an aggressive team. We like to let the opposition invade the play and then put pressure on them. Our opponent for the next match is very good at keeping the ball and they do knock it out of the back, so it’s a battle of both. But we would also like to be aggressive playing at home.”
The assistant coach wants his players to win the individual battles with some of the Mumbai City stars so that they can put pressure on the high-flying side. “If we can win those battles and try impose ourselves, we can create chances as we did in the previous match. We just have to be more clinical,” Stewart said.
