Panel to study demands, local farmers call off ‘Delhi Chalo’ | Noida News – Times of India

Noida/Ghaziabad: A group of farmers demanding enhanced compensation for land acquired for the NTPC plant in Dadri have called off plans to march to Delhi on Friday after the UP govt formed a three-member committee to look into their grievances.
Affiliated to the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad and All India Kisan Sabha, the protest by this group of farmers is different from the agitation over a law guaranteeing MSP.These farmers have been camping outside the NTPC office in Sector 24 and the Greater Noida Authority for a month.
The farmers will continue their sit-in demonstration at these two places, but assured they would not block roads.
A letter by additional secretary SP Goyal to the farmers said the committee would have in it the director of the revenue department, Meerut divisional commissioner and the Noida district magistrate. It will submit a report in three months.
“Some farmers have been protesting in Noida and Greater Noida over their demands. To address their issues, as per the direction of the UP chief minister, a three-member committee is formed. The Noida Authority and Greater Noida Authority will extend cooperation in this process. The report shall be submitted within three months,” it read.
District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said the report would be ready well within time. “We will hold regular talks with the farmers and NTPC officials. We hope to reach a solution soon,” he added.
Most of these farmers demanding enhanced land compensation had given their plots for the construction of the NTPC plant between 1986 and 1995. UP govt had acquired 2,416 acres from 23 villages in Dadri between 1986 and 1989. In 1994-95, it again acquired nearly 1.7 acres for a power line. The rate of compensation was different for these two phases of acquisition because of the gap of 10 years.
Apart from compensation, the farmers have also been demanding 10% developed plots and govt jobs for each family. While one group — backed by Bhartiya Kisan Parishad leader Sukhvir Khalifa — has been protesting outside the NTPC office, another faction affiliated to the All India Kisan Sabha have been camping near the Greater Noida Authority.
Rupesh Verma, district president of the All India Kisan Sabha, said they were assured of the committee on Feb 8, when they had marched till the Dalit Prerna Sthal, choking the Noida Expressway.
“Both police and the district administration had assured us that a committee would be formed to examine our demands. Now that the govt has stuck to its promise, we will call off our march to Delhi that we had scheduled for Friday,” he added.
