Coimbatore: State BJP president K Annamalai on Thursday said the Tamil Nadu government had deceived the people of Coimbatore in the 2024-25 Budget tabled in the assembly.
Speaking to reporters here on the day, he said while the state government had announced a few projects for the city, funds were not allocated for their implementation.
“Vilankurichi IT Park announced in this Budget was a project that was announced way back in 2020.But there is no progress. While ₹400 crore was allotted for public sanitation in Chennai, nothing has been allotted for Coimbatore. Even for the Kalaignar library, which was announced in the Budget, funds were not allotted,” Annamalai said.
The Budget shows that the DMK government was not keen on development of Coimbatore, he charged.
He also said the government had renamed several central government schemes to project them as the state government’s initiatives.
On the proposed move by Southern Railway to get six trains skip their stoppings in Coimbatore Junction and operate through Podanur railway station, Annamalai said this was a move to decongest the junction. “Only if Podanur railway station is developed, Coimbatore Junction could be decongested.”
Annamalai, who resumed his pada yatra in Coimbatore on Thursday, said at a public meeting at Singanallur that the saffron party had reached 33% vote share in the state. “The BJP had crossed 20% share during Vel yatra itself. But we did not have a chance to show our strength. 2024 is our chance,” he said.
