Margao: Senior officials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) visited Cuncolim to fix the situation created by the snapping of optic fibre cables (OFC) which provide internet connection to the BSNL’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) consumers.
The OFC cables were damaged on Feb 20 when the digging of roads by the electricity department was under way in Cuncolim.Though the internet connection was restored the next day by rerouting connections through alternative means, the actual fault has still not been identified.
“We are now given to understand that no permission was taken from the PWD by the electricity department contractor to dig trenches to lay the underground electricity cables,” said Lorna Fernandes of Cuncolim Civic and Consumer Forum. She demanded that an official complaint be lodged by BSNL against the power department contractor and an appropriate demand note be raised to recover the losses.
Earlier CCCF had met the BSNL Principal General Manager S K Chaudhary at Panaji and requested him to approach the South Goa district collector to convene a joint meeting of all departments concerned to prevent such damage to the OFC lines in future.
