New Delhi: In a suspected case of gang war, a businessman has been shot at by shooters associated with the Tillu Tajpuria gang in outer Delhi’s Alipur. Three suspects were nabbed following encounters in which two of them were injured, police said.
Sources said that the shooters suspected that victim Vikas (35), who lives in Bakoli, was passing their information to rival Gogi gang.Authorities believed that the hit was ordered from the jail.
The victim’s wife informed the police about the incident at 9.34 pm on Thursday. She alleged that four people, belonging to Tillu Tajpuriya gang, had fired at her husband.
The investigation revealed that Vikas was sitting in his car near his chicken shop when a white car driven by Mohit (23) approached him. Siddharth (19), Rohit alias Laddu (24), and Kunal (20), all armed with guns, exited the car. As Vikas attempted to flee, they opened fire, inflicting gunshot wounds, a senior police officer said, adding several teams were formed to crack the case.
“When a team reached Bakhtawarpur, they saw some movement in the farms. On challenging, the accused fired, and the police team retaliated in self-defence in which the accused identified as Rohit was injured. He was sent to hospital. Another accused Mohit was apprehended near Janti toll following another encounter in which he sustained injuries. The third accused, Siddharth, was apprehended near the Janti toll farms. One suspect remains at large,” said Ravi Kumar Singh, deputy commissioner of police (outer north).
Police said, in their press statement, that Vikas had recently opened a new shop in Bakoli and accused were jealous of his success. However, sources said that the accused had suspected that the victim was passing their information to their rival gang members.
“Vikas sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh and attempted to flee in his car while being chased by the accused,” the DCP said, adding that Rohit has a history of violent crimes, including four cases of attempted murder and robbery. Mohit and Siddharth also have records of similar offenses.
“Our investigation has revealed the involvement of Chetan and Aman, the victim’s cousins,” said an officer, adding, “Chetan, currently incarcerated, is suspected of orchestrating the attack. He was arrested for firing during last year Diwali”.
