Hubballi: Dharwad district made its way into the India Book of Records for organising an awareness campaign for the people to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
Santosh Lad, minister in charge of the district, and Divya Prabhu, deputy commissioner, will formally receive the certificate from India Book of Records at Sawai Gandharva Hall here on Feb 24, confirming Dharwad’s entry into the record books after it finished on top in two categories – heritage walk and torch rally – in a countrywide competition among all districts to raise general awareness on the Constitution.
Prabhu told TOI: “The awareness drive yielded good results. We have organised multiple events under the theme ‘Our Constitution, Our Pride’, running from Jan 26 to Feb 26 as part of the awareness campaign.”
Thousands took part in the events that included bike rallies, sand art, hot air balloon show, jathas from different walks of life, the DC said.
“We had organised a heritage walk on Feb 17, covering all the important heritage sites in the district, including KCD, DIET, Darbar Hall. More than 10,000 students and 500 teachers participated in it, apart from people from other walks of life,” Prabhu said. “The torch rally on Feb 19, from Unkal to KC Circle, saw more than 15,000 people, including children, taking part,” the official further said.
Sadanand Amarapur, the assistant director, Youth Employment and Sport Department, Dharwad, said: “We submitted videos and other documents related to these events to the authorities at India Book of Records. Our entry into the record books was confirmed only after a scrutiny of documents.”
