Govt releases list of illegal schools in Gurgaon | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: Haryana govt has released a list of 282 schools in the state that are running without recognition, of which 158 are in the city. Ahead of the deadline issued by the Punjab and Haryana high court, the govt is gearing up to highlight the schools.
The HC had asked the Haryana govt to share the status report of action taken against schools operating illegally in the state by Feb 26, during the hearing of a 2017 petition.
The state will have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 if they fail to do so in time.
In the PIL, advocates Manoj Jaswal, Ranjan Lakhanpal and Brijlal Parmar had urged the HC to instruct the govt to take action against the unrecognised private schools running across the state as well as restrict the department to grant extension to the illegal schools .
Private school associations have claimed that there are over 5000 unrecognised schools in the state. The govt has asked the district education officers to ensure that the listed schools do not run from the next academic session and that their names are published. The director of secondary education said that running a school without recognition or permission despite intimation will be considered an offence under Haryana School Education Rules 2003 and a legal action will be initiated against them.
“Gurgaon alone has over 400 unrecognised private schools and Faridabad has over 500. Govt, instead of shutting down these schools, should come up with a way to grant them recognition so that students already studying there do not have to face problems,” said Santosh Bhargav, a member of an association of private schools.
