Patna: Seven-term MLA Narendra Narayan Yadav was on Friday elected unopposed as deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly. He is the JD(U) MLA from Alamnagar.
“A man acting as a panch is neither a friend nor an enemy. I will carry both the ruling and opposition together,” he said after being declared elected to the post.
“I appeal to the lawmakers to raise people’s problems for the govt to solve them,” he said.He also thanked CM Nitish Kumar, both deputy CMs and the opposition for reposing faith in him.
Narendra was picked up for this post after his party colleague Maheshwar Hazari resigned as deputy Speaker on Wednesday. Although he cited no reason behind his resignation, Hazari is likely to be inducted as a minister in the next cabinet expansion or may be considered for a party ticket in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
About a month after the formation of NDA govt in the state on January 28, Nitish is yet to expand his cabinet, fuelling speculations. In the absence of distribution of portfolios, eight ministers, who took oath along with the CM, are burdened with responsibilities with each minister handling affairs of an average five departments.
Of all, both the deputy CMs, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha from BJP, hold nine portfolios each, followed by six by JD(U) minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, five each by CM Nitish and his party leader Bijendra Prasad Yadav, another five by BJP minister Prem Kumar, three by JD(U) minister Shrawan Kumar, two by HAM(S) chief Santosh Kumar Suman and one by minister Sumit Kumar Singh, an Independent MLA.
